Gorgeous. I was not familiar with either woman and now I'm going to seek out more. Holding this close as I think of my own Norwegian friends going through their own deeply painful struggles right now. Thank you.
"Lingering memories of place that can’t be seen, but somehow are still felt, still present."
Thank you for this thought-provoking post, which reinforces the notion that place & time are more closely connected than we often realise. The one able to collapse the other: something that many of us seem to be nudging at just now…
This feels all too relevant right now. It seems we humans would eventually learn something kinder, something more humane through all our collective memories. Outside the door, though, the past repeats itself, and it would be easy to despair if anger was not also carried in those memories. I believe we are capable of better, kinder action, and it is my hope that we use our collective anger to generate a more loving, sustaining way of being human.
Thank you, Freya. Your writing, so powerful, so full of ghosts. These things matter, greatly.

Every line of this rings like a clear bell, Freya. Thank you.
What a heartbreaking gift to read this.
Another brilliant piece of writing. Thank you.

Heartbreaking piece of history, but very glad you wrote about it. I really enjoyed your translation of the poems.
