Oh, what a dear story! The Moomins are brand new to me, but how in the world I missed them I haven’t a clue. My favorite part, aside from the end of course, is preparing for Christmas with hot compresses and a gun. Sounds a little too on the nose! 🤣
I'm so glad you liked it too--the Moomins are a delight, and how lucky you are to discover them and have all of them to learn more about! The compresses and the gun.... yes (oof)--and don't forget the aspirin too! :)
Brava for doing it, Freya, when it wasn’t comfortable! I love reading aloud, but long ago I really hated the sound of my voice too. Please keep doing it! Just picture us out here enjoying listening. I love being read to.
Do you there’s a scientific explanation for not liking our own voices?! I guess that’s why the nature made others of our species so they see (hear or feel) the beauty in our folks that we don’t see in ourselves 💜
So true--it's probably part of that uncanniness in not being able to really know ourselves as others do--or at least, that there is a hint of a different reality than what you are used to of your own voice when we speak when hear it disembodied on a recording...
Love this. Thank you for reminding me. I have kept a couple of Moomin books in my kid's nostalgic collection and just pulled one out now to have a look.
I also love the photo of your Alaskan sunset at 3.19pm. Eerie and beautiful.
I was contemplating light and dark and all that Christmas is to me as I wrote my post early today.
Relate totally to what you say here. Obviously we are bringing light into light here as we are in the Southern Hemisphere. Nonetheless, I will take any opportunity to bring more light into my life.
Thanks Freya and have a Happy Christmas bringing light into the dark. Jo 🌟
Mimunki--I love that! It's funny, I remember finding some of the old animation online for my son when was younger and it was in Polish--love that you know them too! 💜
I do remember reading that at some point--so great they named the band after them! I love to find others who love them too--such great imaginative writing and ideas. 💜
Thanks for this, I just picked up a Moomintrolls book at the local bookshop. I've been meaning to read Jansson for a while, and needed this reminder.
I have read them all, and LOVE them fiercely. 😍
Hooray! Love to meet other moomin readers--those books are so so great! 💜
so great! especially moomintroll midwinter. 💜

Thank you so much for sharing this story. It was so lovely to listen to. I am so grateful.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, makes it all the more worth sharing. 💜

Happy summer solstice to you! ☀️ And so lovely that you too have some Moomin books to revisit--love to know others love them too.
What a lovely story. Thank you for sharing it with us.

So timely -- I just yesterday FINALLY read the first Moomin book, which you recommended to me so long ago it's embarrassing! Delightful.
Hooray! Midsummer madness is the one where Snufkin really goes all in against subverting no trespassing signs, you'll love it. 💜
Ahhhh I grew up in Poland watching the dubbed version of this cartoon, we called it “Muminki.” So much nostalgia. Thanks for sharing!

Ah, we love Moomin! Did you know there is a famous russian band named after Moomin, it’s called Mumiy Troll
I do remember reading that at some point--so great they named the band after them! I love to find others who love them too--such great imaginative writing and ideas. 💜
There are also some really lovely tea and coffee cups on the moomin website!
yes! I'm a little embarrassed at how many moomin mugs I have...it's the one thing I can never have enough of. :)
I collect coffee mugs so I think that’s great, haha.
