I felt this! I'm studying Plato at the moment and all I can think is, where are the women?

You are an artist with words, my goodness! Thank you for sharing Masham with us, what a wonderful way to navigate the world. The reframing of self-doubt as consciousness of shared space is magical, and I thank you for it! What a great read, just wowza!

Hello from Dublin town. On International Women's day. Lovely to read your carefully curated piece on female philosophers, on doubt, on becoming a women, on female empowerment, on barriers to living an intellectual life, on love and worry as love.

Your writing is inspirational, reflective. Full of grace and power.

Amen to that.

And women.

Amen to the journey it's been. Is. And ever shall be.

So so good! Thank you for weaving together so many ideas and questions in such a refreshing way, and introducing me to both Masham and Penaluna. All of this is new to me, and reading it on International Women's Day is particularly moving.

This is one of my favourite pieces both then and now. Needed to read this again. Needed to be reminded how to step out of the male gaze of my own sense of womanhood and think differently. Thank you as always for your incredible effort to piece these things together Freya. You are the best! 💜🌼

"Masham believed that love is essential to living a moral life—love of people, love of the world." It's so refreshing to hear about a (to me) new philosopher who gave priority to love. Thank you!

I would trade the entire deck of male philosophers for Teresa, Simone Weil, and Hannah Arendt, no hesitation. And while we are wheeling and dealing, I will throw in every surrealist-man if I can have Varo and Carrington. Just sayin.

I love this, it's new to me. "... and hell, even some white men." I think so!
